Spring 2027 Semester

Course Details

Grades: 3rd- 12th (Level: Foundations I- Beginning students with no previous experience)

Meetings: Once per month- 120 min.

Location: Elk Grove Regional Park or Online

Fridays:

Session A: (IN-PERSON) 10:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m.

Class Dates: In-person: 2/20, 3/20, 4/17

Price: $55 per student for each monthly class

or all four classes for $150 (save $15).

All materials provided.

Mondays:

Session B: (ONLINE) 11:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m.

Class Dates: Online: 2/22, 3/15, 4/19

Zoom link and materials list will be provided for enrolled online families after registration.

Price: $30 per student for each monthly class

Sunset Landscape Series

Class Information

In-person Classes

Join us for an outdoor painting experience where students of all levels learn classical painting techniques! Whether you're a beginner or an experienced artist, teachers work with students one-on-one at their level and ability.

Grab your brushes and let's create something beautiful together!

Students will be amazed at what they can paint!

Take home your own completed painting!

Students will learn to see as artists and develop skills of artistic observation. The class will be guided with STEP-BY-STEP instructions on how to use classical techniques to master foundational fine-art painting skills. Students from 3rd to 12th grade are welcome.

Teachers work with students individually according to their age and ability.

Students will be taught painting elements such as:

-Elements of Composition

-Changing light and shadows

-Creating depth

-Perspective

-Color theory

-Brush techniques

-Blending

Students will paint using a traditional French box easel and palette in the beautiful Elk Grove Regional Park.

The specific location in the park will be sent to enrolled families only.

About the Instructor

Julia Akers has a passion for bringing art education into our community. She is a working artist and muralist in the greater Sacramento area and has been teaching for over 16 years to students of all ages and abilities. She studied Classical Painting at the New York Academy of Art and is currently completing her B.S. Ed in Art Education at Valley State University.

One of her favorite things to teach at the Academy is the outdoor painting classes. She also loves reading, chocolate, learning languages, and traveling.

Materials

In-person Painting Students:

-The instructor will provide all art materials.

- Stretched canvas

- Artist-grade acrylic paint mediums

- Brushes, painter's pallet, towels, and water

- French box easel

-Students are welcome to bring their own art smock or apron.

-Students are required to bring their own portable chair and a water bottle.

Online Painting Students:

-Art materials will need to be purchased before the first class session. This is the list of required supplies. Please provide comparable substitutions if these are out of stock. Any questions about materials can be sent to AlistairAcademy@outlook..com.

Technical Requirements

There are no technical requirements for in-person classes.

Two weeks before the class starts, enrolled families will receive a welcome email and syllabus. If you have not received it, please check your spam folder.

Families will receive auto-generated email notifications of class meetings. Please do not reply to these class reminders.

Online Art Class — Technology Requirements

Students will need a computer or tablet with a reliable internet connection to participate in live online instruction. A device with a working camera and microphone is recommended so students can interact with the instructor and receive feedback during class. Students should also have access to the class’s designated online meeting platform, such as Zoom or Google Meet. For the best experience, students should position their device so the instructor can clearly see their artwork and workspace during demonstrations and critiques.

Online Painting Classes

Join us for an online art experience where students of all levels learn classical and contemporary techniques! Whether you're a beginner or an experienced artist, everyone is welcome to explore their artistic potential.

Grab your art supplies and let's create something beautiful together!

Students should have most of their artwork completed during class time. If additional support is needed, please have your student email their instructor for feedback and guidance!

Students will learn to see as artists and develop skills of artistic observation in each class setting. Courses will be guided with STEP-BY-STEP instructions on how to use classical techniques to master foundational fine-art skills. Students will utilize their gained knowledge, creative interpretation, and artistic judgment.

Teachers work with students individually according to their level and ability, and an online platform is a great way to work with students in the comfort of our own homes/studios!

Students will be taught painting/drawing elements such as:

-Elements of Composition

-Changing light and shadows

-Creating depth

-Perspective

-Color theory

-Brush techniques

-Blending

-and so much more!
