Course Details
This colored pencil drawing course teaches students how to develop the essential skills and concepts needed for observational and creative drawing while exploring the unique possibilities of colored pencil as an artistic medium. Lessons build on each student’s current ability as they learn the fundamentals of line, shape, form, proportion, perspective, value, texture, composition, color theory, and spatial relationships.
Through demonstrations, skill-building exercises, and drawings inspired by still life, nature, objects, animals, and the surrounding environment, students will learn techniques such as layering, blending, color mixing, shading, creating texture, and developing realistic highlights and shadows. Students will strengthen their ability to observe color, value, and detail while learning how to create depth and dimension in their artwork.
The course also encourages experimentation, visual problem-solving, creativity, and the development of an individual artistic style. Creative and technical homework assignments will be given each week to encourage continued growth and mastery. Students should expect to spend up to an hour per week on homework, depending on their skill level.
Students will be amazed by the vibrant, detailed artwork they can create using colored pencils!
No previous drawing experience is required.
Grades: 3rd-7th grade recommended

Wednesdays: 4:00 p.m.- 5:15 p.m. PST

Online Drawing Class
Join us for an online art experience where students of all levels learn fundamental drawing techniques so they can draw the things they love most! Whether you're a beginner or an experienced artist, our teacher works with students at their level.
Grab your pencils and let's learn to draw like an artist!
Students will have weekly homework assignments to strengthen their learning.
Students will learn to observe the world around them in 2-D and 3-D form and develop skills of artistic observation in each class setting. Courses will be guided with STEP-BY-STEP instructions on how to use classical techniques to master foundational skills. Students will utilize their gained knowledge, creative interpretation, and artistic judgment to complete challenges and assignments as a group.
Teachers work with students individually according to their level and ability, and an online platform is a great way to work with students in the comfort of our own homes/studios!
Students will be taught painting/drawing elements such as:
-Elements of Composition
-Values, form, lines, and shape
-Linear perspective
-Blending
-30 second sketching
-How to draw a face
-How to measure for correct proportions
-and so much more!
